Infrastructure and reliability focus
I work across application development and the systems that keep applications deployable, observable, and recoverable. My strongest background is in Ruby on Rails, learning platforms, cloud infrastructure, Kubernetes, databases, and delivery automation.
I am most useful when a team needs to understand an existing system before changing it: mapping dependencies, identifying operational risks, improving feedback loops, and making the next change safer to test and roll back.
Core competencies
- Cloud and DevOps: Kubernetes, Docker, Terraform, Helm, CI/CD, GCP, AWS
- Infrastructure and automation: deployment tooling, configuration management, operational documentation
- Databases: PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, Oracle, query and connection-pool investigation
- Programming: Ruby, Ruby on Rails, JavaScript, Python, and shell scripting
- Reliability: monitoring, alerting, performance investigation, disaster recovery, and high availability
- Engineering practice: testing, code review, incremental modernization, and incident learning

Reallyenglish — Lead Ruby Developer / Site Reliability Engineer
Oct 2005 – Jan 2022
- Led architecture and development across multiple generations of a learning management platform.
- Worked on application delivery, infrastructure automation, databases, and production operations.
- Built and maintained CI/CD and deployment processes.
- Mentored developers and promoted testing, code quality, and maintainable engineering practices.
Selected project areas
- Learning platforms: Rails-based LMS and course-management systems with web, mobile, and content workflows.
- Containerization: moving complex or long-lived applications toward more repeatable development and deployment environments.
- Kubernetes and databases: operating application and PostgreSQL-related workloads with explicit attention to recovery and failure modes.
- Delivery systems: improving the path from a code change to a tested, observable, and reversible deployment.
